My radio career began... I started at Radio Forth in 1980, then travelled via Glasgow’s Radio Clyde and Newcastle’s Metro Radio, to Radio 1 where I had a great fifteen years. Since 2002 I have presented for Emap’s Smash Hits Chart, Classic FM and Real Radio, as well as BBC World Service and BBC Radio 2
When I'm not at work I... try to relax… if you can with 3 kids and 2 dogs
Q&A
My favourite:
- Pastime…Music, Walking the dogs on the Heath, movies... reading
- Meal…probably a great Italian.. a brilliant risotto with a glass of red wine!
- Holiday destination…I like summer in the UK these days, the North Norfolk coast around Blakeney is always great in the sunshine
- Childhood memory…I lived in the Welsh countryside until I was 8 and I have fond memories of village life - walking to school, the village store... boy has it changed now!
- Film…recently I really liked Casino Royale and also laughed out loud at Borat - mostly because I couldn't believe how rude and non PC it is!
- Band/artist…I'm a huge fan of Bowie - especially the 70s and 80s. He is difficult to beat.
- Song…70s Rod Stewart is pretty special too... Reason To Believe is a fantastic song.
- Album…I'm a big fan of Prince... still love Purple Rain after all these years.
- Decade…It’s tough to pin it down – but I think there is a lot to like about the 70s musically, from Bowie and The Faces, to Elton, John Lennon solo, Marc Bolan…
The track that best sums me up is: In the unlikely event that this should happen… Beatles – With A Little Help From My Friends… it kinds of sums up how I feel about life!
